Booking a new barber can feel like a bigger decision than it should. You might know exactly what you want, or you might only know that your last haircut stopped working. Either way, you don't need to arrive with the right barber vocabulary. Bring an idea of what you like, and we'll talk through the rest.
Barbon's is at 1912 E. 7th St., Suite C, near Chicon in East Austin. We opened here in July 2017, and we've spent the years since building the kind of neighborhood shop where good service starts before the first cut.
Book the service that gets you close

If you're choosing between a regular haircut and a skin fade, it helps to know that a regular haircut is allotted 30 minutes, while a skin fade can take up to 45 minutes because more is involved. Pricing also depends on the barber you select; the booking menu has the current details.
If you want your beard shaped as well as your hair cut, reserve the beard service too. That gives your barber time to consider the whole shape, clean up the cheek and neck lines, and work on the mustache instead of trying to fit it into a haircut appointment. One convenient part of a visit here is our own parking lot. You can park on site and walk into the shop without hunting for a space in the neighborhood. The address is 1912 E. 7th St., Suite C, Austin, TX 78702. Check the location and contact details before you leave.
We offer a complimentary beverage with your service. The little details matter to us, but the point is simple: you should feel welcomed and comfortable from the moment you walk in.
Tell your barber how you actually wear your hair
You can bring a few photos, especially pictures of a previous cut you liked. A front and side view are useful; a back view is even better. Your barber won't assume the same cut will sit the same way on a different hair texture or growth pattern. A reference helps us understand which parts of the look matter to you.
Expect questions about how long it's been since your last cut, how often you come in, whether you prefer a soft or sharp finish, and how much styling you'll realistically do at home. We look at texture, density, hairline, cowlicks, and how the hair naturally falls. Then we explain the plan before getting started and check in as the cut takes shape.
You don't have to style your hair perfectly beforehand. Clean hair without a lot of heavy product is helpful, but seeing how it normally falls helps too. If you're planning a larger change, leave the trimming to us so we have the length to work with. For a beard service, letting your natural cheek and neck lines show gives us a better starting point. Tell your barber about any irritation or cuts before a razor service.
Leave with a cut you can live with
A haircut should work on an ordinary morning, not only when your barber styles it in the chair. Ask how the shape will grow out and what, if anything, you'll need to do at home. A close skin fade generally shows growth sooner than a softer taper or longer scissor cut. The right choice depends on your hair, your schedule, and how particular you are about keeping a freshly cut look.

Do I need to know whether I want scissors or clippers?
No. Tell us the length, finish, and maintenance you want. Your barber will consider your hair texture and growth patterns and explain whether scissors, clippers, or both will serve that goal.
Is there parking at Barbon's?
Yes. Barbon's has its own parking lot at its East 7th Street location.
How are a regular haircut and a skin fade appointment different?

Can I add beard shaping to my haircut?
Yes. Add a separate beard service when you book so your barber has time to shape it, clean up the cheek and neck lines, and balance the mustache with your haircut. You can see the available combinations in the booking menu.
Is a beverage included with my appointment?
Yes. Help yourself to a complimentary drink while you’re here. We keep Civil Goat cold brew on tap and rotate beers from Austin Beerworks, Karbach, and Zilker Brewing.
